Since its launch in 2012, BuzzFeed News has grown into an international news organization, with 250 reporters and editors now in more than a dozen countries around the world. BuzzFeed News has exposed shocking allegations of misconduct by celebrities, politicians, and entertainers; exploitative content on internet platforms; and government corruption overseas, which has made BuzzFeed News a Pulitzer Prize finalist for the past two years. Recently, BuzzFeed News has undertaken another type of evolution: embracing the production of original, premium shows on Netflix, Twitter, Facebook, and Oxygen. But far from a “pivot to video,” these projects are an intrinsic part of BuzzFeed's news operation—using the biggest video platforms (and wallets) in the world to expand the reach of its journalism. Join BuzzFeed News’ VP of news and programming Shani Hilton, head of programming Cindy Vanegas-Gesuale, and BuzzFeed News talent (TBD) as they discuss what it's like to translate hard news on the internet into high-quality shows and programming, while building a sustainable business in the process.
